The Los Angeles company has been using QR codes on its packaging for some time, according to a news release. The app can be used to scan and read any QR code on any product.

Features of the new app include auto-detect scanning, which allows users to point and scan codes; the ability to share information on Facebook, Twitter and e-mail; and the option to pre-approve websites before visiting them.
The QR codes on Melissa’s products take users to videos, recipes and product information, including how to handle and prepare produce. According to the news release, Melissa’s officials believe that better informed consumers buy more, and the mobile app allows the company to put information into the hands of consumers while they shop.
