Zanobini California Tomato Farmers, Fresno, named Chris Zanobini president and Nick Matteis director of food safety.
Zanobini, known for his work with other California produce associations including the California Pear Advisory Board and the former California Kiwifruit Commission, is president and CEO of Ag Association Management Services Inc.
Zanobini will oversee California Tomato Farmers programs and staff. Matteis will manage and direct the food safety program, according to a news release.
In 2011, the tomato group became the first in the industry to create a database that allows buyers to see food safety compliance efforts.
“CTF has been a food safety leader and innovator since its inception,” Zanobini said in the release. “Our goal is to successfully implement the members’ existing food safety programs and help them move their vision for this organization forward.”
The previous president of California Tomato Farmers, Ed Beckman, left the group in January to become CEO of Clovis, Calif.-based Certified Greenhouse/Hothouse Vegetable Producers Association of North America.
The Sacramento-based Ag Association Management Services has been involved in California agriculture for more than 25 years, with experience managing commodity boards and trade associations, according to the release.
