Western Growers is scheduling a July 10 web seminar to help growers sort out what happened with the June 28 Supreme Court health care ruling.
The Irvine, Calif.-based Western Growers seminar, “The Supreme Court’s Obamacare Decision: Impact & Aftermath,” discusses what was challenged and why the Supreme Court made its ruling, said John Alexander, the association’s compliance counsel.
Alexander said the association plans to provide an overview of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as health care reform or Obamacare.
The seminar plans to cover individual and employer mandates and discuss the unique challenges agriculture faces with the reforms, he said.
“We will discuss how there’s a disconnect with regulators and their willingness to move forward on health care reform but a lack of action on immigration reform,” Alexander said. “We see those going hand-in-hand. Without immigration reform, there really is no health care reform as undocumented individuals can’t take advantage of these new health care reforms and will be in the emergency room system rather than in the health insurance system.”
Though geared toward its membership, Alexander said anyone can log in and learn more about how the issue affects agribusiness.
