RedLine SolutionsTeri Miller, produce category manager for Food Lion LLC, is scheduled to describe what the chain’s parent company means when it says it is requiring suppliers to be compliant with the Produce Traceability Initiative during a Web seminar sponsored by RedLine Solutions.

The free seminar, “A Retailer’s Perspective on PTI,” is set for 11 a.m. Pacific time, Oct. 17. Registration is required online prior to the event.

Teri MillerMillerMiller has been an active proponent of the PTI, saying that Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C., would eventually end relationships with suppliers who do not meet traceability requirements. In August, Food Lion’s parent company, Brussells-based Delhaize Group, sent a letter to suppliers stating what expectations are.

“We at Delhaize America support the Produce Traceability Initiative Action Plan and have followed the individual timelines and milestones part of this plan,” according to the letter.

“We are currently reading the hybrid pallet labels and (Global Trade Identification Number) case labels in our distribution center located in Salisbury, N.C. It is our expectation that all of our suppliers be compliant with milestones 1 to 5 in order to facilitate Delhaize America achieving milestone 6 by Sept. 30,” according to the letter.

Milestone 6 is the reading and storing of information on inbound cases, according to the PTI timeline. It requires each subsequent handler of each case of produce to have systems to read and store GTINs and lot numbers.

Also scheduled to present during the seminar is Gary Fleming, vice president of RedLine. Both Miller and Fleming will take questions from seminar attendees following the presentation.
