Pelligrino’s Fruit & Produce Inc. and the U.S. Department of Agriculture signed a consent decision that bans the company from operating in the fresh produce industry until November 2014.
The USDA reported the company owes $261,198 to five produce sellers for 42 lots of fresh produce.
As part of the consent decision, Joseph Pellegrino, the sole principal of the Lighthouse Point, Fla.-based company, agreed he will not work in the industry or be affiliated in any way with any entity licensed under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act until November 2013. At that point, he will be allowed to post a USDA-approved bond and re-enter the industry.
The Dec. 4 notice from the USDA did not list the five companies with PACA claims against Pelligrino’s.
