Nine are scheduled for grand openings Jan. 25.The Canadian branch of Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to build 37 new supercenters in the next fiscal year.

In a news release, the Mississauga, Ontario-based division said it also plans to open its first supercenters in the Maritime provinces this year. New distribution centers also are on tap, to expand the company’s distribution network and “support its ongoing store growth and expansion plans.”

The expansion represents $450 million in investments, according to the company. Its next fiscal year ends Jan. 31, 2014.

“This year, we are ramping up our focus on lowering prices and helping customers lower their cost of living, as we continue to bring our supercenter format to more Canadians,” said Shelley Broader, president and chief executive officer of Walmart Canada, in a news release.

The company plans to update with specific store and distribution center projects as the details for each project are set.

To date, there are 379 Walmart Canada stores, including 209 supercenters. At the end of the fiscal year, in January 2014, 388 stores are expected to be open. Nine supercenters were scheduled to have grand openings on Jan. 25.

Nice expansion, lots of money invested on trying to lure more people to go to understaffed stores, with underpaid employees or as they call them, associates, with lots of merchandize with really questionable quality.........of course, save money..live better, is not about employees...sadly...
