At the April 20 event, growers collected enough money to purchase more than 1,400 backpacks filled with school supplies to be distributed to Immokalee students before the start of the 2013-14 school year, according to a news release.
“This year, thanks to the agriculture community, and companies like Pacific Tomato Growers, we were able to double the amount of school supplies collected in 2012, making our impact even greater,” Jaime Weisinger, Lipman’s director of government and community relations, said in the release.
“As growers, sustainability, of course, refers to being environmentally conscious. But for Lipman and the agriculture community, it also means being socially responsible, taking care of our employees, their families and the communities where we do business.”
