Fresh produce repacker McEntire Produce, Columbia, S.C., began using SmartWash Solutions in the second quarter of 2013.
“We realized there were challenges running flume systems with heavy organic loads. So we were looking for options to improve our up time,” Dave Morris, senior vice president of operations, said in a news release. “We have an automated system that shuts down the line if the sanitizer and pH is not appropriate. So we were looking for solutions to improve that and, of course, ways to improve food safety.”
Morris says McEntire Produce found what it was looking for with SmartWash, a patented food wash enhancer that boosts the effectiveness of standard chlorine-based wash systems, according to the company, a division of Salinas, Calif.-based Taylor Fresh Foods Inc.
“And it’s not just dollars,” Morris said, “There is line capacity and getting orders out on time and providing great service for our customers. All sorts of things are affected.”
The company guarantees the removal of pathogens and mitigation of cross-contamination of E. coli and salmonella, according to the release.
McEntire transitioned to the new wash system with help from SmartWash representatives.
“From start to finish it went very smoothly,” Morris said in the release.
