Other personnel changes also followed the October sale by Ranno and his partners of their 60% share to Salinas-based Andrew Smith Co. and Jeffrey Sholl, giving each 50% ownership.
Steffanie Smith, co-owner of California Sprouts LLC, Rancho Cordova, Calif., became — and remains — chief executive officer at Colorful Harvest. Sholl is chief executive officer of Potandon Produce LLC and the Vista Institute and a partner with Steffanie Smith and Andy Smith in California Sprouts.
“Doug’s talent and energy will be missed, and we wish him well,” Steffanie Smith said in a news release. “We look forward to building on the foundation that has been laid, and taking the company to new heights in 2014.”
Ranno and partners Tom Remick, David Knudsen and Art Davis were co-founders of the grower-shipper, along with Sholl.
In the southeast region, Lee Cobb has been promoted to the position of vice president of business development for blueberries at Colorful Harvest. He was previously director of blueberry sourcing. A former blueberry grower and marketer, he has helped grow the company’s blueberry program in Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. The company eyes additional U.S. expansion, according to the release.
In prior roles, Cobb was president of Smart Business Southwest Florida Inc. and chief operating officer of Bee Branch Farms LLC.
Rick Michels has been named business development manager and is based in Plant City, Fla. Michels previously worked in sales at William Manis Produce Marketing for about nine years.
Colorful Harvest supplies fresh strawberries, blueberries and blackberries, as well as vegetables with distinctive colors. It has growing and cooling operations in Florida, Central Mexico and Northern California.
