AJ Trucco plans to bring a popular Italian pear to the U.S. this fall.

The company plans distribute abate fetel pears as part of a pilot program recently approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.

The pear is named after the French Abbot, Abbé Fetel, who developed the variety in 1866, Abate fetel pears are grown in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy, an area that experiences favorable growing weather, according to an AJ Trucco news release.
