Cyclist Mark Cavendish will participate in the pistachio organization’s promotional and educational efforts. Cavendish is joined by his nutritionist and fellow pistachio lover Nigel Mitchell in the campaign.
Cavendish has 25 stage wins at Le Tour de France and is an advocate of healthy living.
“I’m proud to support America’s pistachio farmers in this educational campaign and to add my voice to the growing group of advocates who encourage people to exercise and be mindful of what they eat,” Cavendish said.
Along with his work with Cavendish, Mitchell is the nutritionist for the British National Cycling Team and is an expert in sports nutrition.
“(Cavendish) trains five hours a day and is one of the fastest sprinters alive. His body is in a constant state of exertion and recovery,” Mitchell said. “Pistachios fill a nutritional need and just as important, they’re a convenient, delicious snack that he likes to eat.”
Other athletic ambassadors for the pistachio growers include Jeremy Jones, snow boarder and National Geographic’s 2013 Adventurer of the Year, and the gold and silver Olympic medal-winning women and men’s USA Water Polo teams.
