A news release from the Lubbock, Texas-based company, which does business as The United Family, said it will be acquired by Boise-based Albertsons in November. The deal includes 50 stores, three distribution centers and one manufacturing facility. Terms were not disclosed.
United will continue to operate as an independent business unit, according to a news release, and Robert Taylor, United’s chief executive officer, will lead the company as president of the subsidiary.
“With the strength and stability they (Albertsons LLC) have to offer our team members, we believe that this new ownership, working with our world-class team, can take United’s vision and mission to places and levels previously beyond our reach,” said Matt Bumstead, United co-president said in a news release.
Tommy Wilkins, director of produce procurement for United, left the company in mid-August and recently was announced the director of business development for Grow Texas Farms LLC, a partnership between Ciruli Bros. LLC, Nogales, Ariz., and The Horton Fruit Co., Louisville, Ky.
