The U.S. Apple Association is touting the fruit’s nutrition benefits for American Heart Health Month in February with a promotion dubbed “28 Days of Apples.”

A daily apple-related prize from a trade group member or supporter will be awarded to a consumer who engages with an apple heart health fact through social media, according to a news release.

Prizes include fruit gift baskets, cookbooks, cookware and others.

The program features daily posts on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest with data from health studies plus cooking tips and recipes. There is a Feb. 13 Twitter party scheduled, featuring USApple and NourishRDs nutritionists who will offer apple facts and cooking tips while encouraging participants to share recipe ideas. A Facebook ad campaign will highlight the promotion.

“We want to remind consumers that eating apples can be one of the most convenient and accessible ways to fight many of the factors that contribute to heart disease,” Wendy Brannen, director of consumer health and public relations for USApple, said in the release.
