The grilled Vidalia onion sirloin is now available at Applebee’s restaurants nationwide, according to a news release. A national television advertising campaign prominently features slices of Vidalia onions sizzling atop a 7-ounce sirloin.

“Grilled to order and topped with a grilled and caramelized slice of sweet Vidalia onion, (the steak) is the star of a new Applebee’s menu arriving just in time for warmer weather, with ingredients chosen to highlight the season’s best flavors,” according to the release.

Susan Waters, executive director of the Vidalia Onion Committee, said in the Applebee’s release that the national exposure for Georgia’s trademarked sweet onions is a great promotional tool for growers and shippers.

“We are thrilled to provide our unique, sweet Vidalias to Applebee’s,” Waters said in the release.

For the launch of the Vidalia-topped sirloin, an Applebee’s restaurant in Dunwoody, Ga., was temporarily renamed VidaliaBee’s, according to the release. The nation’s first Applebee’s restaurant was located in nearby Decatur.
