Tanimura & Antle’s Artisan lettuce is slated to appear on broadcasts of “Appetite for Health,” a syndicated nutrition news show, in May during National Salad Month.
Two segments, “Heart-Smart Salads” and “The Mediterranean Diet,” air May 6 and May 15 on The Daily Buzz affiliates and May 16 and May 27 on ION Television’s Newswatch affiliates. The show appears in more than 250 U.S. media markets.
The show is hosted by registered dietitians and authors Katherine Brooking and Julie Upton.
The broadcast themes are apt for Tanimura & Antle, director of marketing Diana McClean said in a news release. In February, the Salinas, Calif.-based grower-shipper gained a heart health certification from the American Heart Association, whose checkmark now appears on packages of Artisan lettuce.
The lettuce fits Mediterranean diets — noted for use of fresh produce, olive oil, nuts and beans — as a salad component, McClean said.
The Mediterranean segment of the TV show was inspired by a New England Journal of Medicine study that found such a diet can reduce heart disease risk by up to 30%, according to the release.
The show estimates more than 4 million viewers for each segment. “Appetite for Health” television segments are also on the AppforHealth.com website, to social media channels and about 10,000 e-newsletter subscribers.
