Spencer worked at Associated Citrus for 32 years, beginning as packinghouse manager and director of sales in 1981, according to a news release. He served as president and chief operating officer of the family-owned company for the past 22 years, growing the business to about 2 million cartons annually.

In March 2012, Spencer struck a deal with the 120-year-old Limoneira Co., Santa Paula, Calif., to increase the customer base of Associated Citrus by providing lemons year-round.

Alex Teague, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Limoneira said in the news release Spencer has a reputation for high quality and impeccable service while keeping the greater good of the industry in mind at all times.

“Bill’s great experience working with Pacific Fruit, the Lemon Administrative Committee and ultimately heading ACP made him a force in the citrus industry,” Teague said in the release.

When he announced the alliance of the two companies, Spencer said Limoneira’s food safety programs and dedication to sustainability were two of the factors that spurred him to partner with the company.
