The Food Marketing Institute has honored six companies for their high food safety standards.

Lerinda Farms, an Australian grower-shipper of apples and nectarines, is among the winners of FMI’s Safe Quality Food Institute’s 2011 Quality Achievement Awards, according to an FMI news release.

The awards honor companies with globally recognized food safety and food quality certification programs that are based on sound scientific principles, consistently applied across all industry sectors and valued by stakeholders.

Other winners of the 2011 awards include ConAgra Foods, Dairy Farms of America – Fort Morgan, H-E-B University and EAGLE Registrations Inc., according to the release.

The winner of this year’s Outstanding Achievement Award was Rena Pierami, division vice president of Silliker Global Certification Services Pty. Ltd.

FMI represents 1,500 food retailers and wholesalers from more than 50 countries.
