Nearly 48 million pounds of avocados — almost 44 million of them from Mexico — shipped during the week, as the industry geared up for the Super Bowl Feb. 2, according to a news release from Avocados from Mexico.
Avocados from Mexico is running a winter marketing campaigned aimed at fans of the Super Bowl and other winter sporting events.
Running from January through February, the campaign features a “Guacamole Bowl,” in which people share their best guacamole recipes on Pinterest or another social media channel where Avocados From Mexico has a presence.
Retail promotions include two coupon offers and a nationwide “Super Spread” sweepstakes.
Consumers who buy three avocados and a bottle of Cholula Hot Sauce (five ounces or bigger) can get Mission tortillas or chips free (up to $2.99). In the second offer, those who buy a 12-pack of any Heineken beer and two “Super Spread” brands (Avocados From Mexico, Mission Foods and Cholula) get a $5 mail-in rebate.
In addition, four “Super Spread” sweepstakes winners will receive a $5,000 grocery gift card.
