The extension follows a 2013 export pilot project.
“We saw an increase in our international sales and export growth in the initial partnership… so we are very excited to finalize this multi-year partnership,” Lance McGinn, BC Tree Fruits director of sales, said in a news release.
BC Tree Fruits produces more than 5 million pounds of cherries on average each season, including Lapin, Skeena, Sweetheart, Staccato and Sentennial varieties.
Sutherland S.A. Produce, a cherry grower and distributor, has offices in Hong Kong, Spain and Canada. The company has exported and marketed cherries for more than 20 years.
The partnership is expected to provide BC Tree Fruits export opportunities in markets including Europe, China and the Middle East.
“We are very pleased … to continue to work with BC Tree Fruits and support the over 300 growers within the fruit cooperative,” Clive Sutherland, president of Sutherland S.A. Produce Inc., said in the release.
