Ed BaloianCourtesy Baloian FarmsBaloianEd Baloian, chairman of the board of Baloian Farms, Fresno, Calif., died Aug. 2 at the age of 92.

Despite some health problems during recent years, Baloian was a “constant presence at the office every day” until a few weeks before his death, according to a news release from the family-owned company. He was the son of an Armenian immigrant and learned about growing and distributing fresh produce from his father.

The family’s first business was Charles Baloian Co., a wholesale distributorship owned and operated by Baloian, his father and brother. In 1965 Baloian expanded operations and founded Pam-Pak Distributors, which represented grower products from the U.S. and Canada, according to the news release.

In 1986, Baloian and his son, Tim Baloian, started Baloian Farms. Tim Baloian is president of the company, which grows peppers and other vegetables.

“My dad had an enthusiasm for life and a respect for people that he instilled in us as a family and within our business,” Tim Baloian said in the release.

“Our business is an extension of his passion — the idea of doing something good and meaningful that helps others is what farming is about. We grow healthy food that helps people. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have worked side-by-side with a man rooted in faith that showed me through his actions, the importance of honesty, hard work and generosity.”

Baloian was a member of the People’s Church in Fresno and of the Northwest Fresno Rotary Club.

Visitation is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at Whitehurst, Sullivan, Burns, & Blair Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at the People’s Church in Fresno. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Fresno Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 1422, Fresno, Calif., 93716 or to Seeds in His Garden, P.O. Box 919, Seaside, Calif., 93955.
