Bi-LoBi-Lo and Dole partnered to donate five cents for every three pound banana purchase to Katie's Krops, an organization that raises money to fund hunger relief community gardens. Katie’s Krops got a boost from Dole Fresh Fruit and Bi-Lo.
During a one-week promotional period ending Oct. 22, each time a customer at Greenville, S.C.-based Bi-Lo Holdings LLC stores purchased three or more pounds of Dole bananas, Bi-Lo donated five cents to Katie’s Krops.
The Summerville, S.C.-based charitable organization started by Katie Stagliano raises money to donate healthful foods and awards grants to children wanting to establish gardens to feed people in need.
“As a local grocer, we’re committed to supporting programs that address hunger in our community, like Katie’s Krops,” said Mary Kellmanson, senior vice president of marketing for Bi-Lo, in a news release. “We are proud to be the first grocery chain to launch a program like this with Katie’s Krops and encourage our customers to support this effort as they shop in our stores this week.”
Katie’s Krops hopes to have at least one garden in every state donated to people in need, Stagliano said in a news release.
“The money raised helps us educate and empower kids to start and maintain vegetable gardens of all sizes, ultimately ending hunger,” she said, in the release.
