In its second year of event sponsorship, the Fishers-based New York Apple Association donated 2,500 apples that GrowNYC distributed throughout the metropolitan area’s five boroughs, according to a news release.

“Our administration has partnered closely with stores, schools and community organizations to make the healthy choice the easy choice,” Linda Gibbs, deputy mayor, said in the release.

The city’s department of education offered New York State apples with all school meals Oct. 24 and City Harvest distributed 50,000 pounds of apples, according to the release.

In “The Bite Heard ‘Round the World,” New Yorkers attempted to beat last year’s record of having the “most participants in an apple-crunching event.”
