Consumer marketing director for Indianapolis Fruit Co., Lori Taylor recently visited Vidalia, Ga., as her alter ego — The Produce Mom — to gather material to help consumers understand the farm-to-fork journey of Vidalia onions.

She said the Vidalia Onion Committee’s efforts have impressed her as a produce marketer and the onions themselves have always been a favorite of hers. Those elements made for perfect blogging conditions, she said.

“The Produce Mom (blog) has been blessed with a growing consumer following,” Taylor said. “These consumers trust me to be a voice of authority and knowledge on all things produce.”

Taylor toured the Stanley Farms Vidalia operations, including fresh and fresh-cut onion facilities. She also toured growing fields during harvest with Oso Sweet’s marketing director Chris Kiehm.

In the coming weeks Taylor’s blog at www.theproducemom.com will include a series of posts about Vidalia onions. Taylor said she will provide general facts about how the onions were developed and how they are grown as well as information about traceability. Taylor also plans to include Vidalia recipes.
