Eric Borton, vice president of international sales at Borton Fruit, has pledged to run the Million Dollar Marathon relay — a cancer charity fundraiser — comes through Yakima, Wash., in June.
The 4,000-mile, coast to coast relay organized by Above & Beyond Cancer starts June 21. It’s expected to pass through Yakima June 24. The event consists of 160 26.2-mile marathons — four each day — crossing 15 states.
Borton’s donation page set a goal of $7,500. Other Borton Fruit staff will support the event and some will run portions of it, according to a news release.
The event’s goal is to raise $1 million. There are no minimum contribution requirements for teams and individuals.
Above & Beyond Cancer, a public charity, emphasizes the benefits of diet and exercise. The American Cancer Society estimates that a third of the nearly 600,000 annual U.S. cancer deaths result from poor eating habits, obesity and physical inactivity.
The relay starts in Ocean Shores, Wash., and ends in Rehoboth Beach, Del.
