New Yorkers enjoyed a taste of summer California strawberries while watching Wimbledon tennis matches courtesy of California Giant Berry Farms.
California Giant’s people passed out containers of fresh strawberries and whipped cream from California Giant-branded carts as New Yorker’s experienced a real grass tennis court and tennis pros in the middle of concrete Manhattan.
The Watsonville, Calif.-based grower-shipper helped New York residents almost forget what city they were in the week of June 24 as moms with kids, business people and other tennis fans watched the events, broadcast live from London, on a jumbo screen in downtown Manhattan across from Madison Square Park facing the iconic Flat Iron Building, according to a news release.
They enjoyed their berries watching the matches at London’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
“With summer officially upon us and our strawberry season peaking now, this is a great time to interact with consumers and build brand loyalty,” Cindy Jewell, director of marketing, said in the release. “Additionally, we tied in with several local restaurants in the area that are featuring our berries in Wimbledon-inspired menu items in support of the event.”
This is the fifth year that California Giant has partnered with HSBC Bank in the Wimbledon activities and California Giant handed out more than 10,000 samples to locals and tourists, according to the release.
Each container includes quick-response codes linked to California Giant’s website, www.calgiant.com/win, and provides consumers more information about the berries and the Wimbledon tradition of fresh berries and cream.
