Two organic certifying organizations — California Certified Organic Farmers and Oregon Tilth — plan to merge to form CCOF Tilth.
The move should provide stronger customer service and expanded technology, according to a news release.
Once the merger is complete, Oregon Tilth members, for example, should notice reduced paperwork CCOF expects faster inspections and reviews, according to the release.
Members of the groups will vote on the merger before Oct. 31.
Under the proposal, CCOF maintains headquarters in Santa Cruz, and Oregon Tilth keeps its headquarters in Corvallis.
Cathy Calfo, CCOF executive director, would become executive director of CCOF Tilth Inc., according to the proposal.
Combined, the groups have 4,200 organic farmers, processors, handlers and 600 supporting members, according to the release.
The merger is expected to be completed by Nov. 1.
