Association of California Water AgenciesCalifornia authorities have scheduled a forum on the state’s drought crisis for Feb. 14 at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento.

The briefing, “Impacts and Actions — What You Need to Know,” runs 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

About 350 have registered to attend in person or via webcast — http://dwr.videossc.com/.

It’s sponsored by the Association of California Water Agencies, the California Department of Water Resources, the California Farm Water Coalition, the California Farm Bureau Federation and other organizations.

On the same day, President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with Western Growers Association president Tom Nassif and other agricultural leaders in Fresno, Calif., on the drought.

“We are seeing water supply shortages hitting farmers from a moderate 10% to 25% all the way up to a complete loss of water,” California Farm Water Coalition executive director Mike Wade said in a news release. “The drought will likely affect people along the entire food chain.”

The west side of Fresno County, where melons, tomatoes and other crops are grown, will be particularly hard hit.

Gov. Jerry Brown’s drought task force will open the Sacramento forum.
