Navidad en el Barrio provides food baskets to more than 20,000 families at or below poverty level. The organization was founded in 1972 by Danny Villanueva, a former NFL kicker.

Taylor Farms also donated two pallets of vegetable items to a food bank in Monterey County. Salinas-area grower-shippers are frequent donors to food banks.

“It is a testament to our growers and shippers that they see value in donating perishable goods each year, which makes the food baskets even healthier.” Allen Lund, chief executive officer, said in a news release.

It is nice to see farms donating food for those in need. Times are tough, but the hearts of people are a true testament of how we can overcome the times and come together in times of need.
