California produce broker dies at 77

Karen Ruth Pool CarlsonCarlsonBakersfield, Calif., produce industry veteran Karen Carlson died April 7. She was 77.

Carlson was a produce broker for Bakersfield-based Western Veg-Produce Inc. for the last 18 years. She was also marketing manager at Tenneco West Inc. for 14 years and worked as director of sales and marketing at Cal World.

She also served on the board of United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, now the United Fresh Produce Association.

Survivors include three children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Burial was in Salt Lake City, where she was born, according to a news release.
