A Santa Cruz, Calif., restaurant is serving Lakeside Organic Gardens harvesters who pick chard for its menu items at an Earth Day lunchtime celebration.
Rudy Rudolph and Carolyn Rudolph, owners of Charlie Hong Kong Restaurant, expected to serve 19 harvesters April 22 at Watsonville, Calif.-based Lakeside Organic.
The restaurant estimates it’s bought around 70 tons of chard from the grower-shipper in the past five years, according to a news release. About two cups go into every noodle bowl it sells.
“We want them to taste the food we’re producing as a result of their hard labor,” Carolyn Rudolph said in the release.
