Based in Leamington, Ontario, Pure Hot House is a year-round grower, shipper and marketer of Pure Flavor brand greenhouse produce. Sandra Dick, assistant director of marketing, said the new distribution center started operations Nov. 1.
The distribution/packing center is just off Interstate 35, north of Interstate 10, Dick said, providing quick access for trucks hauling Pure Flavor products.
“It was an existing facility so we didn’t have to wait for construction,” Dick said. “We are packing a full range of greenhouse produce at the San Antonio location.”
Commodities headed to the San Antonio facility come into the U.S. through McAllen, Texas, and Laredo, Texas. They include beefsteak tomatoes, tomatoes on the vine, romas on the vine, Juno Bites cocktail tomatoes, bell peppers, Aurora Sweets peppers, Aurora Bites mini peppers, English cucumbers and mini cucumbers.
The Canadian company is expanding acreage in Mexico, and the San Antonio distribution center is a key element in that expansion. The facility also handles greenhouse produce from Central America.
The San Antonio location also allows the company to improve quality control and packaging operations for imported produce, according to a news release.
In addition to standard packs, Pure Hot House also offers fresh-cut, ready to cook griller and roaster trays of vegetables.
