Harold Edwards, president and chief executive officer for Limoneira Co., is the most recent recipient of the Captain Planet Foundation’s sustainability award.
Edwards said that the Santa Paula, Calif., business, which is more than a century old, has historically employed practices that in recent decades have become known as sustainable, according to a news release. Those efforts range from using pruned branches as mulch for its own orchards to scheduling production hours during non-peak power use times.
The company philosophy also includes employee programs designed to improve quality of life and encourage long-term employment, according to the release.
Limoneira is a seven-time winner of the Family Friendly Award from Ventura County in recognition for its competitive pay, health benefits and 401(k) programs, which have helped the company keep many employees for as long as 30 years.
“I’m thrilled that they have acknowledged Limoneira’s extensive efforts on the stewardship and sustainability front,” Edwards said in the release.
“The Captain Planet Foundation is internationally recognized for their outstanding work providing the next generation of stewards an active understanding and love for the natural world in which they live.”
