Certified Greenhouse Farmers plans to expand its network with new members in Mexico now that it has entered a partnership with Mexico-based Grupo PM, an agricultural marketing agency.
The Bellevue, Wash.-based greenhouse group’s president Ed Beckman said in a news release that having an in-country representative to serve as a liaison with Mexican growers should help attract new members.
“All members must meet the trade association’s strict definition for controlled-environment greenhouse growing, and undergo a rigorous, independent third-party audit against the association’s certification standard,” Beckman said in the release.
Monica Moreno, new projects manager for Grupo PM, said in the release the 23-year-old marketing agency has established relationships with Mexican growers who know the Certified Greenhouse Farmers seal.
The seal represents standards for structural and environmental controls, food safety, water resource management, integrated pest management procedures, ecosystem management and integrated waste management, according to the association’s news release.
The association consists of growers throughout North America. Beckman said in the release it is the voice of certified greenhouse growers, and educates trade and consumer audiences about the value of certified greenhouse products grown in a controlled environment.
