Bananas from Chiquita Brands International Inc. have been named the official fresh snack of Little League Baseball and Softball, part of a sponsorship deal aimed in part at promoting Chiquita’s FanFun sweepstakes.
The sweepstakes run June 1 through Aug. 31, according to a news release. Little League stickers are on retail bananas alongside the Chiquita logo. Consumers can enter the sweepstakes at Chiquita’s FanFun page or by downloading a free trading card app there, the company’s first mobile app.
The grand prize is a trip to spring training for the professional baseball team of their choice.
“We’re pleased to have Chiquita as a new national sponsor, providing us with another opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle,” Stephen Keener, president of Little League Baseball and Softball, said in the release.
The FanFun mobile app, also available at iTunes and Google Play, offers Chiquita and Little League trivia, a store locator and the ability to design trading cards with league participants.
Chiquita also plans to be present in August for the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.
“Little League provides a great way for youth to get active and is connected with our mission to improve world nutrition,” Fernando Aguirre, Chiquita chairman and a former Little Leaguer, said in the release.
