Chiquita Brands International Inc., plans to celebrate the versatility of bananas through a national recipe contest via a mobile consumer app.
During a contest that ends Nov. 23, the Chiquita Cooking Lab plans to showcase bananas by promoting new uses for the fruit including health-focused recipes, creative snack ideas and child-friendly combinations, according to a news release.
The interactive gaming app provides consumers a new way to interact with the Chiquita brand while being rewarded with branded merchandise, according to the release.
Each week, five first-prize winners will receive Chiquita kitchen prize packs and $4,000 for a weekly grand-prize winner, according to the release.
Chiquita plans to turn the grand-prize winners’ recipes into a stop-motion video and Chiquita plans to share all winning recipes through social networks and Chiquita’s website.
“Chiquita is providing a fun and interactive way for consumers to incorporate the all-natural health benefits of the banana in their daily meal choices,” Chiquita officials said in the release. “In an effort to help educate and motivate consumers to make healthier choices, Chiquita’s Cooking Lab contest will serve as a source of additional encouragement for Americans to become more conscious of what goes into their family recipes and more focused on incorporating healthy ingredients like bananas.”
The company is promoting the contest on the back of billions of oval blue Chiquita stickers affixed to its bananas yearly and three generations of consumers singing the Chiquita jingle since 1944.
