The Charlotte, N.C.-based Chiquita Brands celebrated Earth day with employees volunteering in local community gardens and schools on April 22.
“Chiquita is and has been committed to improving the communities in which our employees work and live,” Ed Lonergan, Chiquita’s president and chief executive officer, said in a news release. “Activities like these reflect our strong belief that we are in this world to make it better by improving lives, loving our planet and leading our industry.”
The company’s global colleagues are following suit. Volunteers will plant over 1,000 trees in communities in the tropics. In Guatemala, individuals will label the planted trees with their names to symbolize a commitment to protect communities.
