Trying to encourage schools to include more fresh fruit in meals and snack offerings, Fresh Del Monte is again sponsoring its online teacher cash for classroom promotion.

For the second year, the Coral Gables, Fla.-based Del Monte Fresh Produce NA Inc. is running its “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” program. The promotion to encourage teachers to incorporate healthy eating and living messages into classroom activities.

The promotion awards cash to teachers so they can buy school supplies and fresh fruit for their classrooms.

Dennis Christou, vice president of marketing, called last year’s effort a big success.

Class act: Del Monte promotes consumption, cash for teachers“Not only did it allow us to directly interact with our consumers but also enabled us to introduce many students, some for the first time, to delicious fresh produce,” Christou said in a news release. “This falls right in line with our mission to get consumers to eat and live healthier.”

Parents voting for their favorite teacher at www.fruits.com. Eligible teachers must register and submit essays on how they plan to incorporate healthy eating messages into their classroom activities and encourage fans to vote for them online.

Del Monte plans to select 10 winners each Monday for six consecutive weeks in October and November. It plans to award winning teachers $750 in cash for school supply purchases and $250 in Del Monte fresh produce coupons.
