The main addition is a new sheet co-extruder that increases capacity by 15 million pounds, according to a news release.

The company’s forming films division makes the rigid plastic rollstock used by thermoformers and processors who operate vertical form, fill and seal equipment. Rollstock applications include fresh produce, other foods and consumer packaged goods.

“With new polymer technologies and our continued innovation in the development of new sustainable packaging formats, we see rigid rollstock as a growth area especially in the food and personal health care segments,” James Sanfilippo, chief executive officer, said in the release.

The investment allows increased output of polyethylene terephthalate, recycled polyethylene terephthalate, polylactic acid and biopolyethylene terephthalate rollstock.

Clear Lam also added slitting capacity to meet demand for material with tight tolerances, plus new blending equipment. The company’s specialty blends aim at improved low-temperature impact strength, clarity and sealability.

Elk Grove Village, Ill.-based Clear Lam Packaging develops monolayer and multilayer films and blends for rigid packaging.
