Clifford Produce garners attention, twice

Clifford Produce, based in Ruthven, Ontario, received awards at two events.

It earned a bronze award in the branded package made in Canada category of the 2011 PAC Leadership Awards, in the sustainable packaging competition, for its biodegradable eco trays and recipe booklets. It was the only produce company to win an award at the competition, according to a news release.

The awards gala, held at the Toronto Congress Centre, Ontario, was a meeting of 400 packaging industry members. PAC is a Canadian packaging association recently rebranded to include service throughout North America.

Clifford’s trays are covered with a breatheable film, and are imprinted with graphics and quick response codes that link to the company website, allowing customers to access nutrition information and recipes from their mobile phones.

The company also garnered attention at the Coolest Cucumber competition at the Leamington Agricultural Fair, Leamington, Ontario.

It won the people’s choice award for best cucumber, as chosen by fairgoers.

The cucumber competition was one of three at the fair, featuring Ontario’s hothouse producers of cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. The competition was organized by nonprofit group REACH, and the proceeds went to the organization’s operation in Uganda.
