The line is a Greefa sizer about 300 feet long, Scott Marboe, marketing director for Wenatchee, Wash.-based Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers, said in a news release.
Columbia Reach Pack is part of the Oneonta growers and packers group.
United Sales Inc., Union Gap, Wash., installed the packing line in the 98,000-square foot facility. The packing machinery manufacturer had built the existing front line.
The new line provides defect sorting on all 10 lanes. Internal defect sorting is included.
“We have robotic palletization for stacking boxes,” Marboe said in the release. “We have 17 accumulating lanes to feed the robot, and room to add 34 more lanes. Also, we have room to add a second 10-lane sizer next to the current one.”
Poly baggers are automated Sims Manufacturing machinery. Mesh baggers are automated Giro baggers.
The company has plans to increase capacity to 121 rooms with storage for 185,000 bins.
“The new line joins the existing … inventory control system,” Marboe said.
Average inventory — more than 1,200 pallets — is managed by a radio frequency scanner system.
