The Food and Drug Administration extended the comment period deadline for foreign supplier verification programs and the accreditation of third-party auditors/certification bodies from Nov. 26 to Jan. 27.

The FDA announced the comment period extension in a Nov. 19 news release, stating it was in response to numerous requests for more time to consider how the two rules relate to a proposed rule released in October on current good manufacturing practices and preventive controls for food for animals.

Interested persons can submit comments on the proposed rules electronically at, using the Agency name and docket number FDA-2011-N-0143 (foreign supplier verification) or FDA-2011-N-0146 (third-party accreditation).

Information about FDA’s proposed food safety rules is available online.
