The Food and Drug Administration extended the comment period deadline for foreign supplier verification programs and the accreditation of third-party auditors/certification bodies from Nov. 26 to Jan. 27.

The FDA announced the comment period extension in a Nov. 19 news release, stating it was in response to numerous requests for more time to consider how the two rules relate to a proposed rule released in October on current good manufacturing practices and preventive controls for food for animals.

Interested persons can submit comments on the proposed rules electronically at http://www.regulations.gov, using the Agency name and docket number FDA-2011-N-0143 (foreign supplier verification) or FDA-2011-N-0146 (third-party accreditation).

Information about FDA’s proposed food safety rules is available online.
