The Miami-based Coosemans plans to operate the new company as Consumer Fresh Produce Inc.
Consumers Produce is nationally recognized as a premier regional distributor and produce repacker which includes a diversified product line that also features wine juices and grapes, Coosemans officials said in a news release.
Gregory Cessna, chief executive officer and president of Consumers Produce since 2011, is CEO of the new company, and Les Ainsman, president of Coosemans Pittsburgh since its inception in 1998, is president.
“Consumers Produce is an outstanding organization, well-known for its innovation, freshness, and commitment to food safety,” Daniel Coosemans, Coosemans Worldwide’s president, said in the release.
Siger said he’s known Daniel Coosemans for years and said the change should be beneficial by providing Consumers the opportunity to offer customers a one-stop shopping experience with new access to a full line of specialty items.
With no children working in the industry, Siger said the acquisition also allows his longtime workers employment security.
“People always ask me my succession plans,” Siger said.” I’d tell them I plan to live forever, but now my employees won’t have to wonder what will happen in 10 years when I’m 72.
“This is good for the future of our company as we’re now a member of an international organization that is in a stronger financial position.”
Siger declined to state purchase details or discuss potential changes. He referred comment on changes to Daniel Coosemans, who didn’t return telephone calls.
“This is an excellent opportunity for two great companies to combine their strengths in continuing to serve the wholesale business in Pittsburgh and the tri-state area,” Ainsman said in the release.
Coosemans is an international specialties grower, shipper, importer, repacker and distributor of specialty produce and fresh herbs.
Consumers distributes to customers within a 200-mile radius of Pittsburgh, including parts of Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland and New York.
