Crowley Maritime Corp. has opened a cold storage warehouse facility in Miami.
In a joint venture, the Jacksonville, Fla.-based Crowley Maritime and its Customized Brokers Miami-based subsidiary built the cold storage operation it calls Crowley Fresh.
Crowley Fresh features numerous humidity and temperature-controlled coolers to store and handle perishables arriving 24 hours a day from South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and the Far East, according to a news release.
The modern plant works well for perishables storage or can be used as an in-transit consolidation and deconsolidation point, according to the release.
The cooling and monitoring equipment, which includes forced-air cooling, can be adjusted to meet and maintain varying temperature requirements.
With 400,000 total cubic feet of refrigerated space, the facility offers additional storage space for cargo supplies and unrefrigerated materials.
“When you’re shipping temperature-sensitive goods, every second counts,” Nelly Yunta, Crowley’s vice president of sales, marketing and customer care, said in the release.
Crowley Holdings Inc., a holding company of the 121-year-old Crowley Maritime, is a family- and employee-owned company.
