(UPDATED COVERAGE, Feb. 16): One of the oldest produce companies remaining on the Dallas Farmers Market, Combs Produce Co. LP is looking to relocate.
Jeff Partridge, Combs’ chief executive officer, said the distributor, which sells to retailers, foodservice purveyors and fresh-cut processors in eight states, plans to make the move sometime in 2013.
He said the new facility should consolidate its distributing conducted from three separate buildings into a 100,000-120,000-square-foot building, nearly twice the size of its present combined operations.
“The expanded facility will allow us to grow and enhance our efforts with local produce and with the produce we are importing from Mexico,” Partridge said. “This will increase our capacity to add more value-added service offerings to our customers.”
Partridge said the Dallas Metroplex area has enough unoccupied facilities that it’s likely Combs Produce will move into an existing building.
Founded in 1958 as a tomato repacker, the comapny expanded into distribution of a full produce line, including banana and avocado ripening and repacking.
Partridge said Combs Produce, which distributes from headquarters near downtown Dallas at 915 S. Harwood, should gain efficiencies from the move and said he expects no disruption in service during the relocation.
