It has released apps for the iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry platforms. The new app will allow customers to track shipments on their phones, according to a news release.
Damco will offer tracking of ocean freight shipments at first, with plans to expand to airfreight shipping.
“The proliferation of mobile devices is making it economical and scalable to reach customers with apps,” chief information officer Mark Scotland said in the release. “During recent years tremendous advances have been made, not only in the capabilities of the devices, but also in their ease of use.”
Damco has also launched widgets — small applications that function on a webpage — for its myDamco portal, at damco.com. When customers visit myDamco, they can customize their own individualized content.
The company said customers can fulfill booking, reporting, tracking and document handling at the website.
