Deardorff Family Farms will host a breakfast for the Tour de Fresh cyclists as they pass through Oxnard, Calif., en route from Watsonville to Anaheim.
About 40 cyclists are participating in the 275-mile ride, and they have chosen school districts to pledge $3,000 to fund one salad bar through the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools program. Altogether the tour is expected to raise $120,000 for 40 salad bars.
Among the riders are Tom and Scott Deardorff, owners of the grower-shipper firm, according to a news release.
At a ceremony after the Oct. 15 breakfast, Deardorff Family Farms plans to donate a salad bar to the Thousands Oaks, Calif.-based Conejo Valley Unified School District. The salad bar is expected to be used in the Sequoia Middle School cafeteria a few days later.
Tour de Fresh ends at the Anaheim Convention Center on Oct. 16, before the opening of the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit.
