Nogales, Ariz.-based Del Campo is now marketing its t’mates tomatoes for wide distribution, after introducing the variety on a limited basis last fall, according to a company news release.

Del Campo has exclusive rights to grow and market t’mates in North America. The variety was developed by the seed company Enza Zaden and is popular in Europe. It was voted best tomato on-the-vine in Spain in a 2012 competition.

T’mates are known for their firm texture, long shelf life and consistent size, color and brix.

“In the tomato industry we became very good at growing tomatoes and we forgot about taste,” Guillermo Martinez, Del Campo’s general manager, said in the release. “Consumers told us they wanted great tomatoes that tasted like real tomatoes — and we know that t’mates answer that charge.”

T’mates are available year-round and are packed in 11.5-ounce recyclable cardboard containers that highlight Del Campo’s culture and social responsibility efforts.

To support the launch of t’mates, Del Campo is offering ads, demos, coupons, point-of-sale materials and social media outreach.
