Grower-shippers of Prince Edward Island potatoes are reporting brisk movement of high-quality spuds.
Demand for PEI product is up over last season, Greg Donald, general manager of the Charlottetown-based Prince Edward Island Potato Board, said in a news release.
“If the movement we are seeing to all markets so far is any indication, we are optimistic that demand for Prince Edward Island potatoes will continue to be strong throughout the shipping season,” Donald said.
Shipments are up not only within Canada but also to the U.S. and to several Caribbean countries, Donald said.
Marketing support for the 2013-14 crop includes TV ads on Food Network Canada, part of a collaboration with the PEI Culinary Alliance. On the ads, viewers can see a link to follow online for a chance to win grocery gift cards from the Prince Edward Island potato industry.
