The new carriage-shaped snack package marks the launch of Cashmere, Wash.-based Crunch Pak’s Disney Princess edition, extending its Disney-cobranded Foodles line.
The latest Foodles should hit stores nationwide Oct. 1, said Tony Freytag, Crunch Pak vice president of sales and marketing. Options are apples, grapes and caramel; or apples, pretzels and peanut butter.
Graphics will feature such Disney Princess characters as Ariel from The Little Mermaid, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, and Tiana from The Princess and the Frog.
Foodles sales are up about 40% over the same time last year, Freytag said.
“Single-serve produce snacking items continue to grow whether it’s us or other people,” he said. “The category is up 32% over last year. It’s pretty significant.”
Foodles, a Crunch Pak-owned name, first appeared more than three years ago under the Disney Garden brand, Freytag said. It relaunched in January under the Crunch Pak/Disney label.
“This is the first time we’ve moved beyond the traditional Mickey Mouse shape,” Freytag said of the carriage packaging. “Disney has been putting much more emphasis in the past few years on the princess characters. That’s been successful for other cobranders, like Campbell’s Soup.”
Besides Mickey Mouse, Foodles have featured Disney characters including Donald Duck and Goofy; Disney/Pixar characters from “Cars 2”; and the Disney Channel’s “Phineas and Ferb.”
